Fridays Are For One Question

Let me say from the outset:

I’m under no illusion that I am a great athlete. But now I an under no illusion that I am young either.

For the last several weeks, I’ve been playing basketball twice a week with a few guys that are about my age, and then some other guys that are 10 years younger than the rest of us. And on Tuesday, I had a collision with one of the young bucks. I came away with a fractured rib.

And it hurts. When I breathe. And when I sneeze.

So today, I’m saying it like this:

I feel old when I sneeze.

For today’s question, I wonder if you have a similar sentiment. Is there something that when you see it, hear it, or something else that makes you feel your age?

Please complete the following statement:

“I feel old when…”

    I feel old when I …

    – get out of bed
    – walk the dog and my knees hurt
    – look in the mirror (I try not to do this)

    I prefer to think about

    I feel young when . . .

    – I look at my teenage daughter’s smile
    – I feel the sunshine on my face
    – I see the happiness and friendship in my son and daughter-in-law’s marriage
    – my husband looks at me “like that” :)
    – I sing joyfully

I post a picture of my son’s last first day of school and other friends are posting their kids’ first day of Kindergarten. I also feel old when I have to put on glasses to read those posts. Arrgg!

I made my own motivational poster on my cubicle wall next to the picture of my family.

“Nothing will make you feel as old as having children. Nothing will make you feel as young as playing with them.”
