Fridays Are For One Question
I’ll go first on the question today:
“Christmas Shoes.”
What is the question, you ask? The question is this: What is the worst Christmas song? That’s a hard one for me, especially since I’ve been listening to Christmas music in my office non-stop since the day after Thanksgiving. But this one gets on me. If my mama were going to meet Jesus tonight, I think the last thing I’d be doing was going to Skechers.
And where is the father in this situation?
I could go on, but now I want you to share:
“What is the worst Christmas song?”

Once again this week, it’s a holiday-themed question. And this week, let’s discuss movies. There are some great holiday movies out there. I’ve been busily setting the Tivo all week to record various and sundry Christmas-y type things. So what about you?
“What’s the best holiday movie?”

For me, it was Castle Greyskull. The Christmas morning I woke up and He-Man’s center of operations sitting under the tree was perhaps the most memorable Christmas morning I had as a kid. That’s what the question today is about, the first in a series of Christmas-related Friday questions:
“As a child, what was the greatest, bestest, most unbelievable toy you received on Christmas morning?”

Fridays Are For One Question
Thanksgiving is a great time to reflect about who God is and what He has been faithful to do in yet another year of our lives. It’s also a great time to eat. So rather than going with the standard “What are you thankful for this year?” question, let’s talk about food.
“What did you eat this week that knocked your socks off?”

One of the things I love about our church is the music. There’s alot of old music – mainly reworked hymns. I appreciate that for many reasons, not the least of which is the fact that music teaches you stuff whether you recognize it or not. And hymns have great, concise theology that gets into your heart and soul and holds on. I love it, too, that my kids are going to immersed in musical theology as they grow.
That’s the subject of this week’s question:
“What’s the one song you think it would be important for your children to know by heart?”

Fridays Are For One Question
I have had the privilege of spending the last day in Atlanta with the crew for Passion 2010. Yesterday afternoon, we spent a good chunk of time in Phillips Arena, the main venue for the conference. We sat in the empty arena, where the Atlanta Hawks play, and it was staggering to think that some 20,000 college students will join us there in 50 days.
As we sat there, I remembered my own experiences at Passion Conferences as a student. I’ll borrow the words of Mark Batterson, who describes certain moments of our lives as thin places, where the line between heaven and earth seems very doesn’t seem very thick. Though God is everywhere all the time, it does seem like certain times and certain places we are more cognizant of His presence than others. That leads to today’s question:
“When and where have you experienced a ‘thin place’”?

Fridays Are For One Question
I’ve spent a good deal of time traveling this fall. The time I’ve recently spent in airports has taught me one thing above all else:
Cinnabon puts an addictive chemical in their rolls that draws weary travelers like moths to a flame.
Therefore, I ask you this week’s question:
“Is there anything that smells better than Cinnabon in an airport?”

Friday's Are For One Question
Today is October 30. Tomorrow is the anniversary of when Martin Luther got nasty. On October 31, 1517, Luther nailed a document to the door of Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany. The document contained 95 theses that were essentially Luther’s critique of the church in his day. That document went on to spark the Protestant Reformation.
The document spurred discussion and action – a desire to return and study Scripture and to live the purity of the gospel, that we are saved by Christ alone, through faith alone. So this Friday’s question hopefully won’t turn into a gripe session, but instead will spur us on to the same goal. This week’s question:
“What statement would you nail to the door of the American church?”
Here’s a couple from me to get us started:
1. The Bible is a book about Jesus, not about how to have a more successful or pain free life.
2. We must not preach that salvation is by grace alone but live as if sanctification is by works alone.
3. Churches must provide adequate time in the schedule of their pastor for appropriate study and preparation of sermons.

Fridays Are For One Question
This past week I stood and listened to my son having an in depth and serious conversation with two of his buddies.
The subject? Star Wars.
It was surreal to think about that I had this same conversation 20 years ago regarding the exact same thing with my friends. Star Wars, love it or hate it, is a cultural phenomenon. And let’s face it – there’s not that many things out there with such significant staying power. So this week’s question is simply:
“What’s your favorite memory surrounding Star Wars?”

Fridays Are For One Question
Here we are in October, the month which, at least in my opinion, is the epicenter of the sports universe. You’ve got the baseball postseason virtually every night, the middle of the college football season, and the NFL all in full swing. It’s a great month, only missing March Madness. But I digress.
October always provides healthy fodder for amazing sports plays. So that’s what this week’s question is all about:
“What’s the one sports moment from history you wish you could have seen live?”
